In November 2020 I spent some time looking into free (gratis) text to speech software that I could use. I tried around 10 online ones and thought Natural Reader was the most human-sounding without any restrictions on text length and such. Balabolka is a Windows-only freeware program that works better than Natural Reader, but I couldn't get it to run under Wine (due to lack of voice files that come with Windows).
