I've noticed that if you don't feel like putting a lot of effort into making good atomic cards, you can often substitute by doing something else, and still get a lot of the same benefit. One idea is to add more passive review cards with large graduating intervals. This means you aren't forced to see the so often, but because it's a passive review, the card is still not frustrating.
