Explosive aftermath
In AI takeoff, explosive aftermath (also sometimes called things like discontinuity from AGI) is the hypothesis that once the first highly capable AI system is developed, thereafter AI systems will extremely rapidly improve to the level of superintelligence. Another way to phrase sudden emergence is as "a discontinuity from (rather than to) AGI". The term is used in contrast to the sudden emergence hypothesis, as it is often unclear which of the two someone means when saying "hard takeoff".
