 usefulness of selfish actions for AI safety depends on how likely it is that ''some'' humans can do well without ''all'' humans doing well. I think I (and many AI safety people) are inclined to think that if ''some'' humans are doing well, then that's because we succeeded in alignment, which means ''all'' humans are doing well.
